I think it is important to point a few things out for future reference...
1. Just because someone paid on time doesn't mean they are trustworthy. If anyone wishes to continue believing that, then realize it just makes that person easier to rip off.
2. The old adage "too good to be true" still stands - if for example, $1000 per sign-up seems odd, then maybe a bit more due diligence is necessary to prevent being that sucker just born a minute ago.
3. If a program was ripping off surfers to be able to pay webmasters then how come those webmasters don't realize that they are just as prone to getting burned too... because that other time worn cliche is true too... if they could do it to someone else then they could do it to you too."
4. Following the herd is not smart when you are in a herd of lemmings going right over a cliff. Think independently. Be suspicious of positive feedback as much as negative feedback.
5. Never expect to be paid. Demand to be paid. Make sure what the terms and conditions are about getting paid, and be prepared to get uncollectable debt from time to time even from the most well meaning of businesses and people. That is just a fact of business life and you have to prepare for it and minimize it wherever possible.
