It is not legal to hunt whales. The Japanese are exploiting a loophole. However, even if you give them the benefit of the doubt, they are still hunting in a protected whale sanctuary (Australian sector of Antarctica), the Japanese simply refuse to acknowledge it. That's no different than if I go out and start killing people because I don't "recognize" the law.
The acid they throw is
butyric acid. It is non-toxic. All it does is stink really,
really bad.
If it was up to me, I'd be out there
sinking those Japanese ships.
EDIT: By the way, a good number of the whales they are killing are endangered. So they're flouting more than a few international laws.
