You are correct littlecloud, GoogleGuy has said something about it.
However, if you believe everything they say...you are depending on their desire to see YOUR business grow...right?
No way! The engines have never cared about the webmaster...in general. Reason why is that just when they get rid of one offender, 10 more take his place.
I stood in San Fran at the first Search Engine Strategies Conference held by Danny Sullivan (back in the day) and questioned a technically saavy rep from Excite. I asked him about the possibilities of cloaking a site thats indexed at Excite. He stated that not only was it impossible, but if it were attempted...that the offending site would be banned. At the time I asked him that question, I had been #1 for the word "viagra" and it was cloaked. Cloaking continued to work at Excite until the day they shut their doors!
So the engines, have become more open over the last couple years...however...I never take to heart what a rep is saying when it comes to straight SEO related topics on a public board.
You can always be assured that they will state an affirmative action (one to penalize) they may take in regards to anything that could be used to gain PR, higher ranking, etc...without doing it as Google intends you to do it.
So again, if you can NAB a domain from Google...before they KNOW its expired...you are golden.
WILLIAM:
You picked up one back in Jan, and its not had any impact on backlinks or PageRank has there?
