It boils down to this: Boycotting an oil company (or all of them) is next to impossible in today's world. If you really want to do it, you'd have to go live naked in the rain forest with nothing but yourself and kill small animals with your bare hands to survive. Because the reality is, everything in this world is either made directly from oil, or oil is used in it's production. Including food and electric cars. Buying or not-buying is not even a question.
Anything you buy can be traced back to oil.
So I guess my answer would be no, people do not have a choice. If you have anything... right down to the clothes on your back, you are in the oil system.
