those figures are very misleading. its illegal to carry a knife in the UK, so the vast majority of that 163,000 is kids getting stopped by the police carrying a knife. and its very rare that 12 people will be killed by a madman with a knife. if a nutjob is walking dows the street shooting randomly with a gun you run for cover, if he was carrying a knife, you'd pick up something and batter him.
