Secondly, you are missing the related trend... TV views for popular shows are going DOWN! Internet episodes are going through the roof!!!! If anything people are ditching their TV service for internet only now that you can get cheap high speed and use an HD tv for a monitor, or buy a large LCD monitor like 24 inches or something.

So I don't think this is going to be a problem.
This is just the start.. by the time this gets popular enough to hurt us they will have a nice little bundled up package. The reason it will eventually be successful is the fact that most computer users aren't web or computer savvy.

Having the web via the TV and via a rented TV box will be easier and cheaper than buying a new computer every few years. TBH, most users don't even need a computer and this will fit their needs allowing them to have access to the limited web on every TV in their house.

I'm sure the cable companies will be smart enough to add in ports to hook up things like Xboxes and Play Stations that will keep the kids happy as well. 5 years we will have a new generation of web surfers that don't know any better and that's when it all starting going down hill for us.
