I think there are a lot of holes in your theory there Mike.
If members used to stay for 6 months and now stay on average for what, about 1.3 months, isn't the incentive or even the "need" to shave signups that much higher now than it was back then?
Signups aren't as easy to convert, and everyone knows that, which is why we all tolerate 1 in 1000+ conversion ratios. "Back then" if you were worse than 1 in 300 they'd drop you and find another sponsor.
I'm not implying that your program does anything unethical, but your theory about how people might have shaved in the past but can't get away with it anymore doesn't make much sense to me.
