If you do not use the /track/ urls, your nats code will still passed through the tours and join pages and you will credit for that visitor. However, /track/ sets the cookie & does the unique/raw tracking so you will miss out on that.
whoever told you that, either did not know how tracking codes work OR didn't care enough to explain this.
