The thing I found weird was when I was living is SA I thought it was normal because I was only 2 years old when we left the UK. I was brought up over there so all the violence and crime I thought happened every where. Florida is on the outskirts of Jo'burg and also near to Soweto so we did have a high crime rate.
It was a shock when I saw policemen without guns over here in the UK and I have never seen anybody being shot, sure Iv seen fights over here but nothing like you get over in SA with guns.
You are more than likey to have a gun pulled on you just over a stupid argument in SA rather than just a fist fight

Totally agree with the UK being safer than SA generally. It has a different standard of living.
Guns being pulled in fistycuffs is more so true as guns are not allowed in the UK without a licence. However guns & knives do appear in fights. I can most definatly say that the knives were a major threat to doormen in London a few years back when I was doing that job.
