The net is full of them, and what I am saying is that the whole story about him being insane is so easily bought. Anyone, even you, would come to the conclusion that he had in fact been hospitalized for X years, but if you read between the lines there are chances its not the case. In the book its clearly evident he was, but Scorcese had the chance to change the story to his liking and make the ending open for interpretation. The beauty of it all would of course be having 95% of the viewers thinking, "oh yes, haha, of course I understood the story" talking about "but what did he mean with that monster/good guy question in the end?" instead!
