That's what happen to me. I had a bad chest cold and my girlfriend who is an RN always tells me about all these people dying of emphysema and COPD and how they cant breathe.
I didn't want to be that guy in a hospital bed at 50 yrs old unable to breathe, so once I was sick and didn't smoke for a week, I said that's it for me, no more.
I used some nicotine inhalers for a little while... maybe 2-3 weeks...just when i was absolutely dying and about to break i would use it.
If you stop now depending on your age your lungs can recover from the damage.
Best of luck..it's not going to be easy.
