I disagree that the democrat/left base is larger but Obama appealed to a lot more center of the road voters then McCain/Palin did for what I consider to be obvious reasons. The far right is much MUCH louder and gets greater coverage in the press. But still, the odds right now are 10% (I saw this quoted on TV) that the republicans will take over control of either houses of congress... what the democrats need to worry about right now is the lack of motivation the populace has to vote in the mid terms due largely in part to the lack of anything getting done. The polls are swinging in the right (left) direction but the movement has been minute
