I emailed the guy back. This is what he said:
"This case was 26 years ago, it was a bit of a fluke but they returned it along with nine other guns to the store owner where Gilmore stole it. I then purchased the weapon. I have as I mentioned FBI lab report and Utah attorney affidavit authenticating the weapon."
I showed him the link in google where it says he refused an offer of $500,000.
He replied:
"If your referring to the article in Las Vegas at the gun show. I posted the gun with an opening bid of $500,000 but that auction insisted on a higher reserve than the opening bid. Therefore the bidder was not bound to the opening bid of 500K. It made a great headline for the papers, see how they are. I explained it completely , but the printed it that way. The highest real bid I have has been $40K."
