Ain't that the truth?

I've been lurking here for a while... that's normally what I do on the boards because it's very easy to get in a hell of a fight, however I understand that it's going to happen too - everyone needs to vent and online is a pretty safe place for it.

I think a lot of us in the industry have a fairly lacking real-life social life due to the demands placed on us. I'm lucky in that my wife works along side of me in everything I do (well, for the most part). We are together 24 hours a day, 7 days a week... spent a total of 3 days apart (one consecutive period) in the last 7 years and never more than 24 hours any other time in those same 7 years. Believe it or not, we almost never fight either lol.

Real life? I hate people.... well, for the most part. It takes every ounce of willpower to not start choking the fucking idiots I run into when I go out (and my god are there a lot of them out there), but online I know that people are just personas... you might be a great person in real life, but a dick online -- or vice versa -- and that makes it pretty easy to like even those people who are dicks online

Can you have better online relationships than offline? I don't think it really matters, however online removes the physicial appearance "first impression" that gets in the way of so many offline relationships (as much as I'd like to say there are people who are not at all superficial, that's bull - everyone forms opinions based on first impressions). I think it's EASIER to build online relationships, however you may very well be just building a relationship with someone's persona.

And yeah, I'm a geek... we've lived in Portland for about a year and a half now and I know less people locally than I can count in a single hand. Online? I have over 300 people on my contact list (business and personal) and also keep in touch with some of the people I grew up.

Anyway, I'm getting long winded (as I tend to do when I actually post)... what's other people's takes?
