My cousin is actually a main contributor to that site.

Aaron, your friend is a jack mormon. He is also wrong about the whole open arms thing, at least as an overall thing. Producing porn and consuming it are both looked down upon.

The family on Big Love are part of the separatists, like the RLDS and TLC

I have a lot of cousins who have gone on missions, married their high school sweethearts and most of them are still married today. One of my cousins is a high ranking bishop in Orem, UT. While there are some who are major hypocrites, there are also many who are devoted to their churches, their families and their beliefs. The only reason they accept me "with open arms" is because I'm family, not because they want to embrace a sinner.

I also remember when my uncle's house burned down. His neighbor, who owned a construction company helped rebuild his house with funding provided by the church. Volunteers came out and helped him rebuild his house. So, many can shit all over the mormons and I've had my share of trouble with them and the religion as a whole, but I've seen a lot of them show humanity and more of a christian attitude than most self-proclaimed christians. I remember when my father got laid off after working for 13 years at US Steel and Christmas probably wasn't going to happen, yet the church pulled together and several members brought over food, gifts, etc.

Anyways...back on topic, haha...
your friend is trying to have the best of both worlds...he wants to be embraced by the lord when he ascends to the Terrestial or telestial kingdom, but also enjoy destroying his holy temple (his body). But, not every Mormon is a perfect mormon.
Yes, overall most are good people. I just have major problems with a lot of the 'rules' and expectations they have. I was raised in the church and had to go there from birth till i was 16. Having to give 10% of all income is just retarded. My mom who is hardcore into it couldn't afford any more to pay that and she felt terrible, they wouldn't let her go to the temple, etc.

There are also always a number of people there for the free handouts. If you are poor, they will give you some kind of 'welfare' as long as you are at least attempting to live up their ideals. Anyhow, while i've grown to find most of the basis for the religion pretty out there a lot of members are just good family people who need/want something to believe in. The branches are typically close-knit and a lot of people like that. They will welcome everyone and everyone but will expect you to eventually rid yourself of the sinful lifestyle. Hell, they'll even accept gay people...as long as you aren't "practicing"..I did the baptisms for the dead thing too when I was 13/14. My girlfriend still refuses to believe people do that, ha.
