The easiest thing to do is use a valid id of someone you look like who is over the age limit of whatever you are trying to do. Scanners won't stop that.

good fake IDs work every time. Most scanners verify if the strip on the back of the card matches to the birth year - I had one. It gets the bad IDs out but kids these days arn't stupid. I had the Liqueur commission come by once as they know of over 50 fake IDs minors were using in my city that had working electronic strips on them and they were looking for leads to find the guy making them to shut him down. I don't think they ever found or caught him.
People produce good fake IDs for about $50. They have the magnetic strip on the back. They pass the ID scanners for age. Unless you're a cop or government worker with access to the driver's license mainframe - you're going to get fooled.
Shit found out later one REGULAR of my bar had TWO different fake IDs and my guard had even verified BOTH of them, and one had the electronic strip on it. we did due diligence on her, as did every other bar and restruant in the city. She had been clubbing since 16. Fuck was I pissed when later she posted her 18th birthday party on facebook.
