I think you don't understand the services KB is providing. 2257Safe doesn't protect you against crimes you commit, it protects you from the hassle of complying with the rigid 2257 requirements that require you maintain certain office hours and cross your T's and dot your I's with cross-reference databases and the like.

While 2257Safe may protect you against a simple records keeping violation, this isn't a case of a simple records keeping violation. It's a case of willful violation of the law... not a situation where there was some inconvenience and he wasn't in the office on the day they came to check out his records.

2257Safe wouldn't have protected him against anything in this circumstance.
