Back in the Star Wars days counting how many tickets sold was just another way of implying how much money a move made. Today they cut the crap and get straight to the dollar amount.

I didn't see where that link showed how many tickets were sold at all. It only showed dollar figures adjusted to modern times.
So we don't know whether Star Wars sold more tickets or not. I know I did see Star Wars when it came out. I was a teenager and I paid $2.50 to see it in Lakeland, FL.
I paid $30 a ticket to see Avatar in Imax 3d here in Vegas a few weeks ago.
