There's quite a dichotomy I'm faced with in these types of situations.
One part of me thinks: "How would I feel if the situation was flipped, and I was the victim here?"
Answer: Shitty
And a clear, moral decision could be formed.
On the other hand, another part of me thinks: "What would the typical human being do in a situation like this to me, if the situation was reversed?"
Answer: Keep my shit
And a clear, justifiably criminal act would occur.
Finders keepers, it's the law of the land.

Most of the time, though, I can tell you, whenever the opportunity has been presented to me to exploit someone else's carelessness, I have always felt obligated to follow self-directed answer #1, and sometimes; I hate myself for it.
