well make someone take out a loan that takes 30 years to pay for a house, a loan that takes 10 years to pay for a car, credit cards that charge them 25% interest, $75k student loans, then slowly increase prices and rates on them so that they're little more than robots that take care of themselves and make money for the bank and whoever they work for - the rest of the money goes to sustaining life
throw in constant fear tactics by the government to keep people scared and you have zombies, depressed zombies at that
