I don't know how it is in the rest of the US but if you were born and raised in the south it might change how you look at things involving race and explain some of the racist stuff that goes on.

There were no people of other races to integrate with where I grew up, so it was a non-issue.
I spent the first 11 years of my life in England, and I could count on one hand the number of black people I saw. I've met 30-40 year olds from smaller towns in N England and Scotland who've still never seen a real, live black person.
Spent the next 5 years in Upstate NY, and I think there were 2-3 black dudes in our high school of 1500.
Then we moved to the SF Bay Area... what a change.. lol.
