When to Compromise Your Personal Boundaries?

If you contacted someone to make a purchase from them and you have no idea who they are, what would you do? Where do you let your personal comfort line get crossed in a business deal with someone you don't know?

1) Send the money in hopes you get what you're paying for?
2) Depend on your solid, legit reputation as a non-scammer and request your product be sent before payment be made?
3) Cancel the transaction because the 2 parties cannot come to an agreement?

General feedback requested.
