Frankly, while I do not care for any of them, however that said, they need to refer to the history after Carson when Leno took over and how long it took for people to accept him.

Yeah thats pretty much right. According to 'the late shift' it was 3 years that letterman beat out jay until hugh grant was on the tonight show discussing being caught with a prostitute. after that jay was leading in the rating but if he kept it up until conan took over or not, im not sure.
