Leno had actual shows leading in to him, different shows on different days. Conan has Leno's shitty show leading in to his show 5 days a week - a shitty show with much lower ratings than the shows they had in that slot before. I'm not so sure his low ratings are due more to himself not doing well in the 11:35 slot than to Leno doing horribly in the slot before.
