Realized I left out a very important category: Italian.
You can't go horribly wrong by walking through the North End (Boston's Italian neighborhood) and picking out a restaurant at random - but Giocamo's and Panza are definitely worth checking out. (If you have a time machine, go back to the 70s or 80s and go to Francesca's, or to the European for pizza
).
No matter where you eat in the North End, though, stop at Mike's Pastry for cannoli afterward (and Modern Pastry, down the street, is almost as good).
