IME, where just about everybody grew up, most guys will post things on the Internet about what they would have done had they been there, then if the same situation arises and they ARE there, those same guys will suddenly discover a certain dignity and mellow perspective they have never exhibited previously.

Hence, "I would have kicked the living shit out of that dirtbag if I had been there" becomes "I would have kicked the living shit out of that dirtbag.... but what problem has violence ever really solved?"
