Can anybody tell me what they have been using to convert DV to DVD or VCD

I have been using "Ulead DVD Maker" but is sucks ass - to many errors on the VCD cd.

Do I have to buy special blank DVD when I burn dvds on my comp?

This is all new to me cuz me, I'm a mpeg1 man!
