I think the magic word here is "lent." Lent means you were to pay it back. I borrowed $1,000 from a millionaire businessman many years ago when I needed some help. I paid him back as soon as I could, even though things were still a bit tough at that time. If it's loaned to you, you pay it back. It amazes me how many people lose "friends" after loaning them money, that for some reason never seems to get paid back. Beware: Loan money at your own risk.
