I'm trying to disable this snoopy Search Assistant. I've reverted it back to the old windows 2000 search/file find instead of the goofy wizard-doggy one.

But "search assistant"it's still hellbent on contacting microsoft to let slick willie know what I'm searching for... SO MUCH SO, that after 3 failed attempts to contact it actually DISABLED my internet connection

Anyway I was going to map sa.microsoft.com to my localbox and see if that speeds things up - but it seems like the hosts file doesnt exist in XP anymore.

-- maybe I just need to create it.

The problem is, even when I block the connection, the search comes up dog slow because its trying a billion times to connect.
