Microsoft has to keep reinventing the wheel every 3-5 years because they are in the business of selling software. It's a lot easier to convince people to pay hundreds of dollars to upgrade to the new thing if it feels significantly 'different' from before. It's just clever marketing and you are the loser in the game.
On the flip side you have the apple people, who nobody can argue offer the best customer experience, they make their money selling the hardware, so every operating system release is optimised, quicker, leaner and the extra features are thoughtfully meshed into an already brilliant user interface. Operating system upgrades range from $29-$99 and come with a range of brilliant, easy to use software included.
Whats wrong with simple? Simple means you get work done quicker and waste less of your time being a cog in the microsoft money making machine
