Enom's $5.99 name only account allows you to buy a domain, but the domain will not resolve unless you pay them another fee to have the domain resolve. The domain also can not be transferred unless you pay them a fee.
I know a little bit about how directNIC works, I'm the product development manager. Everything that is added to directNIC from our new Renewal Manager to what color a banner is going to be goes through me.
I won't bash any of our competition, because each of us has our own niche just like all of you do. Enom for example, has the fastest growing reseller network. But let me tell you a small problem with the Enom reseller system, each reseller signs up under other resellers, so the person you could buy domains from for $8.95 may be under 5 other people in the Enom reseller system. But here's the fun part, do you know that every reseller above them has access to modify your domains? They have access to your domain and password, which gives them full control of all of your domains.
When this was first brought to my attention, I signed up as a Enom reseller, then signed up by wife as a reseller under me. Then signed up my son as a reseller under here, then I bought a domain under my son's reseller account and the original reseller account could view and modify all of the information about the domain.
And to me this is scary! But hey, it's just my opinion.
