Some of the companies listed arent american and dont have to adhere to american laws. That list can be misconstrued which then can give way to libel.

I do believe most reputable forgeign Content companies have model records on file, (what western country wouldnt have a law like that?) as most ive visited from that list have it in their licensing contracts but not veiwable on the site itself.

bottom line is: have your ass covered.
Heh.. I'm not surprised your friend won. When someone murders someone, in front of witnesses, and someone from a newspaper prints it as fact (which it is) I'm sure the reporter could get sued too, since he's "damaging someone's reputation".

And most reputable foreign content providers do adhere to 2257 laws. Why? Because the majority of their clients are American, and in order to protect their customers, who would essentially take the fall if they don't comply. If you want to keep a loyal customer base in ANY business, you must cater to their needs, whether or not you actually HAVE to. It's just damn good business sense, and for those on US soil who are webmasters, it's the LAW.
