In a country so attorney/litigation scared and a business that is targetted by every do gooder with 5 minutes to spare I do not understand why any US website, webmaster does not absolutely insist on getting the 2257 documents with every purchase.

Forget 2257 it's rarely enforced, usually just added in with the other charges. Here are three scenarios that can and have happened and why you need the 2257 documentation.

(1) The police turn up at your door and ask if you have the proof of age of XZY girl as they have recieved a complaint she is under age.

Option one.
Go to the filing cabinet and show it to them

Option two
Your wife, mother, partner is emailing the content provider while the police are putting you into a cell with your new friends. The local chapter of Hells Angels. The police are telling them why you are there. Pass the lube...

(2)
You recieve a writ from an attorney, it seems the content on your site was taken by a boyfriend and the girl had no intention of selling it.

Option one
You fax the attorney the model release, IDs and contract and tell him you will see him in court.

Option two
You contact your attorney by phone and start paying $400 an hour from the second he answers his phone.

(3)
You get an email from the shooter or worse still APIC saying the content on your site is illegal.

Option one
Email them back the documents and ask how come this is.

Option two
Start driving a taxi for a living.

So I made a bit of a joke about a serious matter, but did the message get through?

Aarron
