Yeah it's part that and a bit of "I fucked him and you didin't/he chose me not you" from women. They have this catty competetive thing against each other that has like an unwritten rule saying the more high profile and 'powerful' the man is that they are with the more they are worth. And, in a way, it's true! You don't normally see the rich and powerful sleeping with the bottom of the barrel now do you?
All women want money. Every single one of them. It's not Disney brainwashing It's human nature for them to want a man that can provide for them. It's not materialistic it's just genetic hard coding. From the early years of tribal humans, the man that caught the most fish or was the best hunter got the best woman available. The only other man who would get a better woman would be a village leader (royalty) which would ensure her well bieng of course.
