What everyone said is true....he needs to want to quit. It is best if he finds a healthy substitute for the habit. If he is running or working out he realizes how much better he feels. He also realizes the "lifestyle" of being healthy really is. It is not easy but it is rewarding when you feel good and look good. Get him a membership to a gym and ask him to promise to give it two months. Once he sees a 67 year old lady spending hours on a machine that he can't spend three minutes on he will get the point. It worked for a close friend of mine when I did it. Good luck
