My initial reaction when looking at it was the choice of colour scheme wasn't particularly easy on the eye. Maybe it was the background image being purple as well but it meant everything was a bit hard to read or stand out.
I would think about having a sidebar as well so you can have adverts / banners / text links / trades / sponsors, whatever really.
