Doesn't seem to me like the situation was that bad after all if Martin only had a minor cut after.. tells me some firefighter may have been just pansy enough. A dog is not just a dog to many, he's a family. I know for pet-haters like my feisty Itallian in-law it's only "You crazy! He chewed on your Sandal! That stupid dog deserves to die!! Okay atleast just send him to a shelter then!" So I know to many it's easy to say a dog life has lesser value, just like to many racists, lives of other races have lesser value
