It's sort of like painting. At one time in history, painters were like the rock stars of the world. Kings would all fight over securing the best painters to live in their country and they would support them. Now, being a skilled painter is not really appreciated at all and can't even earn you a living. I think music is going down that same road. People will always like music, but it will be disposable and not really seen as an art form.
