It has potential, but the applications still need a lot of work... Kino is not really comparable to even the most basic windows video editors
I'm forced to use Cinelerra even though it's unstable and buggy as hell, but at least I can get the job done.
Other apps like GIMP of course have been pro quality for years. Someone just has to put that level of effort into the video side.
