since there's some hitbot traffic on TGP's ( at least everybody says it here, I don't run any TGP's or toplists ) but there are thousands of TGP's, so why hitbot traffic and cheaters on toplist in generall, can't be eliminated ?
The bots start out on toplists because that's the whole purpose: to run up rank. (Or to run up PPC payments, but mostly those have gone under for same reason tops are in trouble.) The bots are on TGPs for no particular reason, they're just doing their crawling thing, trying to look like a real surfer. Part of looking like a real surfer is clicking on links. there's no incentive to make the spider smart enough to know when to stop, so they go on and on and on like the energizer bunny.

You can eliminate them using many different techniques, but most techniques are not perfect and you'll delete some honest sites. I've looked at IP distribution, % of AOL surfers in the traffic, and others. Nothing works well, they just set up their damn bots on AOL.
