What's is an acceptable page size on a front splash page?

I'm building a new movie site and was wondering what I should keep the page size down to? It will be scrollable, with pictures and text.

I'm from the old school classic tours all graphics and now I'm changing it up! Any ideas or thoughts welcomed!
