I can see where a week may not seem like that much but it was in contact after being attacked off Sweden, going through the English Channel and was sighted off Portugal. After the last sighting that leaves about 1000 miles to go, maybe less. Odd that no one tried to raise them via radio, ship to shore or Sat phone.
