Come to think of it, even the cable companies sell porn
My girlfriend brought me home an article about the porn industry from the new york times magazine yesterday, it was an interesting read.
There are over 700 million adult video rentals every year in the United States.
700 MILLION!!!!
So if everyone knows how to log onto the net and get all the porn they want for free (or hack their cable box and get all the pay per view shit for free) why would they waste their time, money, gas, and risk their anonymity driving to the video store to overpay for shitty 2 hour titles from the backroom?
The porn industry overall (video/dvd, magazines, internet, pay per view, phone sex, and sex toys) takes in over 10 billion dollars a year, and internet porn is the fastest growing sector of the industry.
10 BILLION DOLLARS!!!
For those of you who don't realize how big of a number that is, its more money than the NBA, the NFL, and Major League Baseball take in
COMBINED!.
People really need to quit blaming thier shitty conversions on TGP's and Kazaa and learn how to change with the marketplace.
If the cable company blamed their low profits on cable thieves and competition from sattellite companies, and just sat around and whined about "the good ole days when it was $50 a month for 15 channels and the service was shitty" the way some people around here whine about the "good ole days when it was all CJ's, FPA's, and console hells" they'd be out of business by now. Instead, they're offering a better product, and offering additional products (i.e. broadband internet) in order to evolve and stay profitable.
If your profits are dwindling, maybe you should stop looking for people to blame and take a page from their playbook.
