U.S. Says Six Americans 'Recovered' in Iraq
Sun April 13, 2003 07:11 AM ET
AS SAYLIYA CAMP, Qatar (Reuters) - The U.S. military said on Sunday six Americans had been recovered alive in Iraq.
"I can confirm at this time six Americans have been recovered," Captain Stewart Upton told Reuters at war headquarters in Qatar.

Gen. Tommy Franks, the U.S. officer in charge of the war, said earlier he hoped to have news on U.S. prisoners of war soon.

"Within the next 12 hours I think we will have some news on those POWs," he told ABC television monitored in Qatar. "I suspect we'll see some breaking news within the next 12 hours."

CNN reported earlier that U.S. forces pushing north from Baghdad had found six U.S. prisoners of war who were now safe with a Marine unit. It quoted a newspaper reporter traveling with the U.S. forces as saying information was still sketchy.
