For Google it doesn't matter if youtube generates direct revenue or not
Just the fact THEY OWN YouTube is enough for them to spend a few hundred million a year on it.
YouTube is pure branding, they reach almost any internet user on the planet.
That fact alone is enough for Google to run YouTube
