I think "we" the internet-generation are spoiled in that sense, we're used to having very very detailed trafficstatistics. I bought a month-long nationwide TV-ad spot in 2007 for an online store of mine, and even though I could tell sales increased 'a lot', I had no way of tracking whether the sales came from the campaign or some other source (as the store doesn't have 'steady' traffic but can jump up and down quite a lot from month to month).
I *HATE* that.. no matter where I get my ads from, I always make sure I can set campaign-tracking etc so I know where the traffic comes from, and whether I'm making any money off it..
Now the 'fad' in Finland are these 'online telephonebooks', and my company gets around 3-5 calls per week from these catalogs and want me to spend ?100-?2000/year or so to be listed there. I'm sure a lot of the smaller, older, companies who are not used to the way Internet works are going to fall for this scam, over and over again without getting "anything" in return. It's not really even a scam, since they DO have the listings online etc..but maybe send 1 hit/year. I bought one such spot 2 years ago from the company that has the biggest print-telephone book in Finland, and I got a total of 200 hits for my ?800/year.
Now..this is a bit off topic and rambling, but I just figured I must chime in and say how much I HATE (non-free) trafficsources that I can't track. heh.
