I saw some video of the snake on the news. It was an albino burmese python and measured 8 1/2 feet. TV reporter said the guy just had a cloth over the top of the cage secured by a rope and the python just pushed it up and escaped.

They also said the boyfriend had lost his own daughter a few years ago to spinal meningitis.
