Donations
A while ago, I made a site on a subject I'm fairly passionate about. It was never intended to make a profit, but I did spend quite a bit of time on it.
For a while, I had been getting "You should put up a donate button" emails. Last week, I finally put up a "if you like this site, buy me a beer" page.
The results, summed up in two words: holy shit.
The donations I've gotten just this week would be enough to keep me shit-faced 24/7 for the next year or so. Either people really like giving money, or they dislike the site and hope I'll die from alcohol poisoning if they just keep donating.
So here's a business tip for those of you who could use some extra money: if you make a quality site about a subject that people have strong feelings about, put up a donate button. You won't regret it.
