You can use a function in word that lets you make alterations to someones document and it will highlight the changes you've made - it's in Office XP not sure about 2000/97.

Go to the tools menu, select Track changes - then right click up near the toolbars (where theres a blank spot) and select the drawing toolbar.

Then just add in the shapes around the words you want - if you right click the shape you can choose "send to back" so it wont overwrite the words
