I am more concerned with what communication via text message and online social networks is doing to the "me generation's" problem solving abilities, reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.
Advances in social technology may be conditioning the dumbest consumer herd ever...

Exactly!
Add:
-
most superficial standards of communication in mass media ever
I'm always terrified about all those trendy people using all those trendy slang words resulting in an incredibly trendy dumb program
-
no real role models / authorities
mainly fake celebrities without ANYTHING to look up to apart from money
-
spending more and more time in the virtual world and not using REAL social skills
the same as if you hide behind the wheel in a car and solve your internal issues in an idiotic way, now besides the road rage we have the web2.0. rage. web2.0 narcissism, web2.0. ego building etc. the way to hide your very own issues behind an online mask
-
the unlimited access to information over the internet is a great thing
but 95 pct. of users of the web are only using it to look for bullshit and other mediocre user submitted input, resulting in a massive explosion and praising of collective dumbness and mediocrity
-
the phenomenon of constant and immediate satisfaction
from the very childhood these people are bombed with TV and Internet etc. that massively lowers their abilities to sit down, think, concentrate and observe with clue
Just a couple things that come to my mind.
